Summary

What we collect and why

When you use online features, our server stores:

DataPurpose
Nickname you enterTo show you on the leaderboard and to other players in multiplayer. Must be unique.
Random device identifierA UUID generated on your device to associate your stats with your nickname. It is not your Apple ID, advertising ID, or hardware serial.
Device & locale info — device model, OS name/version, device name, language, locale, time zone, screen size, app versionTo understand the range of devices the app runs on and to improve compatibility.
Country/regionInferred from your device's locale setting (not GPS) to display alongside leaderboard entries.
IP addressAutomatically seen and stored by the server when your device connects; used for basic abuse prevention and approximate region.
Gameplay counts — sessions, throws, hitsTo compute statistics and the top-10 leaderboard.
Multiplayer chat messagesFree-text messages you send in a room — and the optional "dedicate your throw" toast — are shown to other players and stored on our server as recent room history, so someone joining mid-match can see the last several messages. Each message is saved with the nickname that sent it. Chat is automatically profanity-filtered.
Reports you submitWhen you report a chat message, we store the reported message, the nicknames involved, and the room code, so we can review the report and act on it.

How information is stored

Data is stored on a private server operated by the developer (hosted on DigitalOcean) in a local SQLite database, protected by a shared application token. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Your choices and rights

Children

Kottabos depicts a historical drinking game for educational purposes and is not directed at children. It contains no real alcohol and no purchasing. Multiplayer rooms include a text chat so players can coordinate; we ask that you not share personal information there, and we may remove messages or nicknames to keep the service fair.

Changes

We may update this policy; the effective date above will change accordingly. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
