These terms ("Terms") govern your use of the Merdvakt iOS app ("Merdvakt", "the app"). By downloading or using the app you accept these Terms.
Merdvakt shows the locations of Norwegian salmon-aquaculture localities together with nearby vessel traffic (AIS), sourced from BarentsWatch open data (originating with the Norwegian Coastal Administration, Kystverket). It lets you set proximity alarms on farms and review recent vessel activity around them.
Merdvakt is provided for informational and situational-awareness purposes only. It is not a navigation, collision-avoidance, safety-of-life, security, surveillance, or law-enforcement system, and must not be relied upon as one. Vessel positions (AIS) and farm data can be delayed, incomplete, spoofed, or inaccurate, and alerts are best-effort and may be delayed or missed. Do not use Merdvakt for emergency response or for any decision where a missed or wrong alert could cause harm. In an emergency, contact the appropriate authorities.
While we take reasonable steps to relay BarentsWatch's data faithfully, we make no warranty about its accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any particular purpose. AIS coverage varies, positions may lag, and farm reports are published periodically and may contain errors or omissions outside our control.
Exploring Merdvakt is free: the map, vessel traffic, 24-hour vessel tracks, an alarm on one farm (up to a 500 m alert distance), and positions shown as snapshots that refresh approximately every five minutes.
The optional "Merdvakt Live" auto-renewing subscription (US$2.99/month, or the local equivalent, billed to your Apple Account) adds continuous live position updates (about every 25 seconds), alarms on unlimited farms, an alert distance up to 2 km, per-farm visitor history (which vessels have passed a farm, how often, and when), weekly and monthly traffic trends, and fine-grained alert exclusions by vessel MMSI, IMO, flag, or size.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period. You can manage or cancel the subscription, and turn off auto-renewal, in your Apple Account settings after purchase. The subscription price may change; where required, Apple will ask you to confirm a price increase before it takes effect, otherwise the then-current price applies on renewal. Any unused portion of a free trial, if offered, is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

The app's code is © 2026 the developer. The underlying farm and AIS data is open data published by BarentsWatch / Kystverket under their terms; we do not claim ownership of it. Apple and the App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc.; we are not affiliated with Apple beyond participating in the Apple Developer Program, nor with BarentsWatch or Kystverket.
Merdvakt relies on Apple's Push Notification service (for alerts) and Apple's in-app purchase system (for the subscription). Their terms apply to those features. What data flows where is described in the Privacy Policy.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Merdvakt — including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, property damage, or business interruption, or from any reliance on its data or alerts.
We may suspend or terminate access to the backing API at any time, with or without notice, if continued service is no longer feasible or if you breach these Terms.
These Terms are governed by Norwegian law, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes shall be resolved before the courts of Oslo, Norway.
We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
