Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the FjordPulse iOS app ("FjordPulse", "the app", "we") handles information when you use it. FjordPulse is an independent personal project that visualizes public Norwegian salmon-aquaculture data from BarentsWatch.

What we do not collect

FjordPulse does not collect:

• Your phone number, postal address, or contact list. (If you choose to sign in, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Apple or Google — see "Accounts and sync" below.)
• Your precise or coarse location.
• Your photos, contacts, microphone, camera, calendar, health, or motion data.
• Any cross-app tracking. The app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission and does not use your advertising identifier (IDFA) to track you across other apps or websites.
• Analytics about how you browse or interact with the app. The app contains no separate analytics, crash-reporting, marketing, or attribution SDK. (It does include Google's advertising SDK to show ads — see "Advertising" below.)

What is stored on your device

FjordPulse stores the following on-device only, via Apple's standard UserDefaults:

• UI preferences: language, map style, hide-inactive toggle, production-area overlay toggle.
• A non-personal App Attest key identifier (see below).
• A local cache of Norwegian-to-English place-name translations (only if you opt into English mode).
• Your favorite farms and saved searches. These stay only on your device unless you sign in, in which case they also sync to your account (see "Accounts and sync").
• If you sign in, a session token kept in the iOS Keychain so you stay signed in.

This data is removed when you delete the app.

Data sent to our server

FjordPulse fetches farm data from a proxy server we operate at api.pythonenthusiast.com, hosted on DigitalOcean in Frankfurt, Germany. The proxy in turn fetches data from BarentsWatch's public API. The only data the app sends to our server is:

• The IDs of farms and ISO weeks you are viewing.
• A static API key embedded in the app.
• On real iPhones/iPads, an Apple App Attest assertion — a per-device cryptographic proof that you are using a genuine FjordPulse install. The proof contains no personal information.
• If you sign in, your account email, name, profile picture, and a user identifier, plus your favorite farms and saved searches, so they sync across your devices (see "Accounts and sync" below).

We do not log IP addresses to build a profile, and we never sell or rent your information or share it with data brokers. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which receives data directly through its SDK as described under "Advertising" below.

Accounts and sync

FjordPulse works fully without an account. Signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store on our server:

• Your account email address. With Sign in with Apple you may choose Apple's private-relay address, in which case we never see your real email.
• Your name and profile picture, as provided by the sign-in service. Apple shares your name only on the first sign-in and never a picture; Google provides your name and a profile-photo URL.
• A stable user identifier from the provider (so we can recognize your account) and a session token.
• Your favorite farms and saved searches.

We use this only to sync your favorites and saved searches across your devices. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or tracking, and we never sell or share it. You can sign out at any time in Settings, which removes the account data from that device. You can permanently delete your account and all of its data from our server at any time in the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account, or by emailing leetsyplakov@gmail.com.

Advertising

FjordPulse shows ads through Google AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK). To deliver ads, prevent fraud, and limit how often an ad is shown, Google may collect device information and in-app activity, and may use a device identifier. FjordPulse does not request App Tracking Transparency permission, so by default ads are non-personalized and your advertising identifier (IDFA) is not used to track you across other apps and websites. Google's processing of advertising data is governed by How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google's Privacy Policy. You can limit ad personalization in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.

App Attest

FjordPulse uses Apple's App Attest framework. On first launch the app generates a key pair inside your device's Secure Enclave; the private key never leaves the device. The public key identifier is sent to our server so we can verify that subsequent requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of FjordPulse. This identifier is not linked to your Apple ID, your name, or any other personal information, and cannot be used to track you across apps or websites.

Google Translate (opt-in)

FjordPulse defaults to displaying the data in its original Norwegian. If you switch the Language setting to "English", the app sends Norwegian place names (locality, municipality) — not user data — to the unauthenticated public Google Translate endpoint, which is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Each translation is cached locally so the same name is fetched at most once. Switching back to Norwegian stops all calls to Google Translate.

BarentsWatch

The underlying data is published by BarentsWatch, a Norwegian government service for marine open data. We are not affiliated with BarentsWatch. Their privacy practices apply to the upstream data and are described on their site.

Children

FjordPulse is a general-audience information app. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect any data from children. Ads are requested with a general-audience content rating.

Your rights

If you have not signed in, FjordPulse holds no personally identifying information about you; uninstalling the app removes the on-device cache and preferences (iOS Settings → General → iPhone Storage → FjordPulse → Delete App).

If you have signed in, you can permanently delete your account and all of its data — your name, email, profile picture, user identifier, favorite farms, and saved searches — at any time in the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account. You may also email leetsyplakov@gmail.com to access, correct, or delete your data. Signing out in Settings removes the account data from that device.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
