This Privacy Policy describes how the Easy Bill Splitter iOS app ("Easy Bill Splitter", "the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. Easy Bill Splitter is an independent personal project that scans a receipt, lets you assign items to people, and splits the bill including tax and tip.
In short: Easy Bill Splitter scans receipts on your device and keeps your splits on your device. Signing in is entirely optional; if you do, your past splits and basic account details sync across your devices. We show no ads, use no analytics, and do not track you.
When you scan or import a receipt, the image is read using Apple's on-device text recognition (Vision). Receipt processing happens entirely on your device — the image is not uploaded to us or anyone else. A copy of the scanned receipt image is saved on your device alongside that split so you can refer back to it; it is removed when you delete that split or the app, and it is never sent to our server (it is not part of cloud sync).
To capture a receipt the app needs your permission to use the camera and/or your photo library. You can also skip scanning entirely and enter items by hand.
You can use every core feature — scanning, assigning items, splitting, and viewing your past splits — without signing in. In this mode your data is stored only on your device, is not readable by us, and is removed when you delete the app. Nothing is sent to us.
Easy Bill Splitter offers an optional account so you can back up your past splits and sync them across your devices. You create one with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. If — and only if — you sign in, we collect and store the following on our own server:
We use this information solely to provide the backup and sync features. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or tracking, and we do not sell or rent it.
Easy Bill Splitter does not process payments, move money, or connect to your bank. To help you collect a share, the app can copy an amount to your clipboard and open a third-party app you choose — such as Venmo, Zelle, your bank's app, or Messages. What happens after that is governed by that app's own terms and privacy policy. We do not transmit your payment or banking information; we never see it.
Easy Bill Splitter relies on a small number of services only to provide the optional account:
If you sign in, your account data is kept until you delete it. You can permanently delete your account and the splits stored on our server at any time from inside the app (Account → Delete account). Signing out stops syncing and leaves your splits on the device. Deleting the app removes everything stored locally on your device, including saved receipt images.
All communication between the app and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and your session token is stored in the iOS Keychain. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we minimize what we collect and protect it accordingly.
Easy Bill Splitter is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
You may access, correct, or delete your account data. The simplest way to delete everything we hold is Account → Delete account in the app. You may also email us with any request. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor those requests.
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
